Meet our family

I thought it would be a good idea to post some pictures of our family so our readers could get an idea of who we are.  Mostly, we are a typical farm family. We all live on the farm or very nearby.  The Meachum boys were born and raised on the farm and they each still work here, and  everyone  in the family pitches in and contributes on the farm in one way or another.  Our farm is a great place to raise children and a beautiful and bountiful place to live.  I am thankful everyday.  For us, "Life is better on the Farm."

Since then our family has been blessed with the addition of two more children.

Independence Day!

What a great day to celebrate our nation's birth!  We just returned from an Independence Day parade in a neighboring community and it was fabulous.  Lots of old farm tractors and cars, reminding us of what a great place America is.  It's a fairly low key day on the farm.  We are all spending time with family and friends celebrating our freedom and resting up for the days to come as cherry season is upon us.  We measured the corn today, because my dad and grandpa always repeated the old adage, "If the corn is knee-high by the Fourth of July, then it will be a good growing season."  It is knee high, and the weather today is perfect.

Our History

High Acres Fruit Farm had its beginnings in 1942 when Glenn and Catherine Meachum purchased 80 acres of land in Hartford Township in southwestern Van Buren County to raise peaches and cherries.  Since then the Meachum family has expanded and diversified the farm.
High Acres Fruit Farm now farms 2500 acres of several different fruits, vegetables, and row crops including apples, plums, cherries, nectarines, strawberries, grapes, peppers, tomatoes, corn, soybeans, and wheat. 
Along with operating the farm, we own and operate Meachum Farms Trucking and Paw Paw River Produce -- a cold storage and warehousing facility.  In 2005, the farm launched the Spencer brand tomato label.  The Spencer brand is now recognized throughout the Midwest and East coast as a premium product.
In 2006, the family farming operation was awarded the Michigan Farm Bureau Farm Stewardship Award, and in 2007 High Acres Fruit Farm was presented the Master Farmer Award from the Michigan Vegetable Council. 
We are proud to be an American farm family that works to put wholesome food on the tables of our nation and world.
